Forests in Natura 2000
In accordance with the Regulation on Special Conservation Areas (Natura 2000 areas), 355 Natura 2000 sites have been designated in Slovenia. Of these, 324 are designated under the Habitats Directive and 31 under the Birds Directive. Natura 2000 areas cover 44.6% of Slovenia’s forests (524,593 hectares).
