Provenance areas

Provenance areas in Slovenia are geographically defined units within which populations of specific tree species have similar genetic makeup, as these populations adapt to local environmental conditions through natural selection. Adaptation to local conditions is an advantage that we aim to utilize when planting and sowing forest tree species. Therefore, the use of local forest reproductive material is essential for growing stable and resilient future forest stands. It is recommended to use forest reproductive material collected from a specific provenance area exclusively within that area for planting and sowing.

Provenance areas are also displayed on the Forest Data Viewer.
