Forest Ownership

In Slovenia, 77% of forests are privately owned, 20% are owned by the state, and 3% by municipalities.

Private forest ownership is highly fragmented, with the average property size being around 3.2 hectares, often further divided into several separate parcels. According to the latest data, Slovenia has 282,500 forest properties owned by as many as 409,000 forest owners. This high level of fragmentation, along with the large number of owners and co-owners, poses challenges for professional forest management and the optimal utilization of timber in private forests.
